The first generation of Richmond's known to us were believed to have migrated to Alabama from South Carolina in the 1800’s. They were Peter Richmond, Sr. and his wife Mary.
To our knowledge, this union produced at least six children. According to the US Census of 1860 and 1870, the children were, in order, Charles, William, Susan, Money, Peter Jr., and Samuel.
Peter was a farmer and Mary was a housewife. In the 1860's the family lived in Carlowville, Alabama. By the 1870's the family had relocated to Richmond, Alabama. To date, Richmond is known as Minter.
The history of the first four children is not known. We are descendants of the last two children, Peter, Jr. and Samuel.
